Decluttering

How to Declutter After 30 Years in the Same House

A room-by-room, low-grief method for deciding what comes with you into the next chapter.

Organized oak shelving with folded linens and a few curated objects

Thirty years of belongings cannot be sorted in a weekend, and pretending otherwise is why most people stall.

Work in ninety-minute sessions, one category at a time, starting with the least emotional rooms: garage, laundry, linen closets.

Use four destinations, not three: keep, gift, sell, release. Naming a gift pile early makes letting go feel like generosity instead of loss.

Photograph what you loved but won't take. Memory lives in the image far more reliably than in the object.

Save the truly sentimental for last. By then you'll have built the muscle, and you'll be deciding from confidence rather than overwhelm.
