About us

We Are Not A Listing Service. We Are A Movement.

The Right Size Life exists for one reason: adults over 50 deserve a next chapter designed on purpose — not one inherited by default from the house they happen to still live in.

It Started At A Kitchen Table

Our founder, Lisa Copeland, has spent twenty-two years sitting across from people trying to start the conversation nobody teaches you how to start: what happens to this house, now that our life has changed?

Five hundred families later, the pattern is unmistakable. The house is almost never the real question. The real question is what the next twenty years are for — and whether four thousand square feet is helping or quietly billing you for the privilege.

Our conclusion, after five hundred versions of that conversation: the size of your house has almost nothing to do with the size of your life.

So we built a practice around the reverse order. We start with your ideal Tuesday. We run the numbers before we run comparables. We shortlist places against your life rather than against an inventory feed. And we say "not yet" out loud when not yet is the honest answer.

Today the work is national in scope and stubbornly personal in practice — and it is growing into something larger than transactions: education, tools, community, and a standard of care for the fifty-plus chapter that we think has been missing.

What we believe

Six Convictions We Won't Trade

These are not values on a wall. They are the reasons we sometimes talk people out of moving.

Downsizing is an upgrade.

Less house is not less life. Handled with intent, it is measurably more: more cash flow, more unclaimed weekends, more of the year spent somewhere you actually chose.

Fear is a terrible advisor.

We do not use scarcity, urgency, or the word "market" as a pressure tactic. Good decisions come from clarity, and clarity takes as long as it takes.

Money should have a job.

Equity sleeping inside three unused bedrooms is the least productive asset most households own. Woken up, it funds travel, healthcare, grandchildren, and the years before Social Security.

Time is the real currency.

Every hour your house takes from you is an hour it owes you back somewhere else. Most large homes are running a permanent deficit.

Nobody should move twice.

The right home on the first attempt is worth six extra months of planning. Moving twice after 60 costs far more than money.

The next chapter is the best one.

It is the first one you get to write entirely for yourself, without a school district, a commute, or anyone else's bedtime shaping the floor plan.

Why People Trust Us With This Decision

Rightsizing sits at the intersection of real estate, retirement math, family dynamics, and grief. We have spent two decades learning all four.

Seniors Real Estate Specialist® and Certified Probate Expert credentials — the designations built specifically for later-life transitions, estates, and the paperwork nobody warns you about.

Published expertise

Our perspective on the fifty-plus housing shift has been featured by Texas Monthly, HousingWire, and Inman, and we speak regularly to financial planners and retirement groups.

Real transaction depth

More than $180 million in equity rightsized across 500+ households — enough repetition to know what the second year in a smaller home actually feels like.

Common questions

Before You Reach Out

The four questions we are asked most often, answered plainly.

Is The Right Size Life a real estate brokerage?
Real estate is one instrument in the orchestra, not the whole score. We begin with the life you want and work backward to the housing, financial, and logistical decisions that make it possible. Sometimes that ends in a sale. Sometimes it ends with you staying put for two more years on purpose — with a plan, instead of by default.
Who do you work with?
Adults over 50 in transition: empty nesters rattling around four bedrooms, couples five years from retirement, women navigating the decision alone after a divorce or a loss, and families helping a parent move once and move well. Roughly two thirds of the people we guide are women making the call themselves.
What does it cost to talk to you?
Nothing. The Right Size Strategy Session is sixty minutes, complimentary, and carries no obligation. Many of the people we meet are eighteen months away from doing anything at all. That is precisely the right time to build the plan.
Do you only work in Texas?
Our roots and our on-the-ground transaction work are in Central Texas, from Austin north through Georgetown, Salado, Belton, and Temple. The planning work — life design, equity strategy, relocation shortlisting — is national, and we coordinate with vetted specialists wherever you land.
