Aging in place is a great strategy in the right home and an expensive one in the wrong home.

The phrase aging in place is often used to mean staying put. It should mean staying independent.
The right home for aging in place has zero-step entry, wide doorways, a main-floor primary suite, and a curbless or low-threshold shower.
Retrofitting a two-story home with those features frequently costs more than moving to a home that already has them.
Choose the place first. Then age in it beautifully.
